Water recirculation

Water Clarification & Filtration by Swirl / Vortex Filtration

Water from the pond is pumped to three 1000 liter tanks located 30 foot above the pond, first level of swirling happens here and major solids are deposited in these three PVC circular tanks, further these three tanks are linked to another three 750 liter tanks where the second level of swirl happens. Second tanks are connected down to the media beds where the water with lots of air is sucked down and distributed to the grow beds.

Submersible Pumps

Six 1.5 HP open well submersible pumps are positioned at equal intervals inside the pond, and they are placed at the farthest end of the slope inside the tank. The idea is to operate alternative 2 pumps simultaneously for 1 hour and then switch the next set of motors for the next one hour and so on. These motors are controlled by timers and no human intervention is required. If we run these for 24 hours, the entire 1 million liters will be recirculated daily. Based on my experience with grow beds, its a waste to recirculate the water after sunset, plants will do quite alright without water during the nights, only thing you have to take care is, make sure the water in the grow bed is auto drained to 6-7 inches down if the re circulation is stopped, I'll explain how to do that when I talk about designing Flood Valve / Bell Siphon.

We have placed lots of gate valves to control the flow of water to the grow beds, just in case if we wanted to do some maintenance, it would be handy that time. Also, we have provided mechanism to pump water to the grow beds directly during the cleaning/extending/maintenance of swirl filters.
